On the way I see this butterfly fluttering in the dust, kind of like birds do when they take a dust bath. What a curious behavior! I've never seen it before. I look carefully, and I realize that the butterfly is stuck by pine sap to a bit of juvenile pine cone material. I gently scoop up the butterfly, remove the vegetation, and set the critter back down. You see that brown stuff just to the right and back of the butterfly? That's what it was stuck to.

Ah, the Buddha would be pleased with me for having compassion on all living creatures. I foresee a television show inspired by this incident after my death: Doctor Don, healer of the wild things. Legends will doubtless grow. I hope I helped more than harmed the butterfly. Certainly it was doomed while stuck. Perhaps free it could enjoy a few more minutes of life.
