I was surprised to find manzanita bush growing all over the place. It's also native to my home state of Arizona and grows profusely near my grandfolks' old house in Oracle, AZ, but never did the Arizona manzanitas have such succulent, full leaves. Notice the beautiful red bark layer over the main wood of the branches. It peels away from the deeper wood in distinctive patterns, which led me to recognize it immediately.
