Sushi
Gulnaz, one of our teachers, said that Japanese food, and especially sushi, was the favorite foreign food in Kazan, followed by Italian. From what I can see, she is certainly right about the former. You can't blink your eyes here without spotting a sushi restaurant... kind of like espresso stands in Seattle.
Here is a selection of pictures of places I've seen around town that are selling sushi. The Russian word for sushi is spelled СУШИ and the word for bar is spelled БАР. See if you can't spot those words in the pictures.
This first one reads "Quick sushi, take it home with you":
This next one read "Chocolatier Cafe, Special Offer, Japanese menu." Does it seem weird to you that a restaurant called The Chocolatier offers sushi? It does to me:
1892 cafe, sushi bar:
Sushi, pizza:
"Sushi for home" at the Fujiyama restaurant:
"Karaoke booths" at the Fujiyama restaurant:
This place has four restaurants, including one sushi bar:
Sushi rolls for every taste:
The Glamorous Samurai restaurant offers both sushi and coffee:
The Dragon restaurant:
This place has sushi and bento boxes. The restaurant is no wider than what you see here:

Brave. I would worry about the fish quality that far inland.
