Just a little bit supersitious
One of our participants just posted a little gem on FaceBook. I reproduce it here with her permission:
apparently, when you leave the house and then rush back in to get something, you have to look at the mirror and stick out your tongue. found this out the hard way when i ran back inside to get my passport and had 4 russians yelling at me to stick out my tongue in the mirror...
This is so true. My understanding of the tongue part is that it is ritual spitting (tphth-tphth-tphth-tphth) to avert bad luck.

aaaah.. no. you do not spit when you look at the mirror. spitting is when you are talking about something that you do not want to happen. so you “scare” the bad luck
