Sunday 2010-06-06 schedule - public
This was a stellar day. For a change we had a slightly slower pace of activity. The weather was perfect for an excursion, about 70-75° but breezy and sunny. I actually can hardly remember a more perfect day. Russian student Daniil joined us. He gets along great with our students, and is very good at mutual give and take linguistically.

0000 - 0330 | Sleep. |
0330 - 0600 | Wake. FaceBook. Banking. Reading. |
0600 - 0700 | Breakfast, morning routine. |
0700 - 0800 | Head downtown. Gossip with early-bird students. |
0800 - 1130 | Bus ride to Yelabuga. As usual, Russian tour guides give us way more information on the way than a typical American wants to hear, but it is still good. At kilometer 130 we stop for a break. Good home-made pastries here, plus the ever present Nescafe. Typical old-fashioned Russian john: two porcelain steps either side of a deeper porcelain bowl, and you are free to squat as low as you like. Back on the bus. |
1130 - 1630 | At kilometer 200 or so (3.5 hours) we arrive at Yelabuga. First stop, overview of Millienial pavilion. Then Shishkin museum. Wow, this guy was talented. Then an ascent up the Church of the Savior's bell tower. Stellar views. Then to lunch, but the hairbags at the restaurant have ignored our pre-placed order, so instead we travel on to the Tsvetaeva museum, then have lunch at the Silver Age Cafe. Note to self: Russia still has problems dealing with groups larger than four in the hinterlands. For next excursion have everybody pack their own lunches. From their we go to the Devil's town. Beautiful scenery. Amazing to think of ruins from the 12th century. |
1530 - 1930 | Head back home. Stop at same rest stop. |
1930 - 2359 | Prep photos for web. Post to web, blog, FB 1, 2, 3. |
