Ryazhenka
I really should retitle this blog "Eating my way across Kazan." This morning's food item is a drink called ryazhenka. It's about the consistency of home-made room-temperature yogurt. Slightly acidic. Not sweet at all.
I really like this stuff. It's odd, really. I try to drink milk for the calcium, but nowadays something in me doesn't want to drink plain milk. But drinking things like ryazhenka and kefir is fine, no mental block. It's as if my body is saying it likes the one and not the other. The Russians are of the opinion that men should not drink sweet milk products, only fermented ones like ryazhenka. I wonder if there is something to that?
